Ruth was a Moabite woman who lost her husband and afterwards returned with her mother-in-law Naomi to Israel, which was Naomi's birthplace. Because Ruth honored God with her service to Naomi and fellow kinspeople, she was blessed with a new husband named Boaz, and they became the great-grandparents of Israel's Kind David, who was in the geneaology of Jesus Christ.

Ruth was the great grandmother of David, so it can be considered that she just fulfilled her 'female' role. BUT Ruth was a woman who chose her faith and God.
