Rodin sculpted "The Kiss", which depicts a couple embracing in a kiss. Sculpted from marble, it is located in the Musee Rodin in Paris, France. It is Rodin's homage to women and their eroticism. He sculpted two copies on commission; also done in marble, they are located in the Tate Modern in London, and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, Denmark.

August Rodin's "The Kiss" was inspired by Dante's Inferno. It was originally titled Francesca da Rimini, and it depicts the 13th-century Italian noblewoman in an embrace with her husband's brother Paolo. The lovers lips do not touch in this sculpture, suggesting that they were interrupted. In real life they were caught by Francescas husband and the couple was killed.
