Jean Lamarck was a real person, a French scientist who lived from 1744 to 1829. He was an early proponent of a theory of evolution (differing somewhat from Darwin's theory), and is known for Lamarckianism, the idea that physical changes acquired during an individual's life can be inherited. This idea contradicts genetics, as generally accepted today.

Jean la Marck was a French soldier and among the first to propose that evolution happened according to natural law. He was interested in botany and became a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
