Several people are credited with the development of the radio, including Guglielmo Marconi, Nikola Tesla and Alexander Popov. Tesla came up with the basic design in 1892. Marconi demonstrated the usefulness of the radio by achieving the first transatlantic telegraph. Pope built the first radio receiver.
