The ball point pen was invented in 1935 by Ladislas Biro in 1935. He and his brother, Georg, decided to improve on a patent for a roller-ball-tip marking pen awarded to John Loud in 1888. The pen was offered for sale for $12.50 each at New York's Gimbels Department Store and the 10000 pens available sold out the first day.
