Who invented the computer and when?

It depends on who you ask. Charles Babbage is largely credited with creating the first "computer" in 1822. There are even people who believe that the first electronic computer originated during Archimedes time, crediting him as the inventor. More recently, many people believe that the first personal computer was invented in 1950 by Berkley Enterprises.

The first computer was created by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry in 1942 called the Atanasoff-Berry Computer. Bill Gates focused on operating systems rather than hardware itself.

It mostly depends on what you consider a computer. However, the machine which could be considered the starting point of it all was invented by Charles Babbage.
