In 1946, Louis Réard invented the modern bikini in France.
He named it after Bikini (Pik-in-ni = "surface coconut") Atoll,
its introduction on French beaches was like an atomic explosion.
Jacques Heim, France, designed an earlier version called the "Atome",
and Reard "split" it;
other precursors date back to Çatalhöyük & Greco-Roman civilizations.
