Daimler in Germany in the late 1800's is actually the inventor of the internal combustion powered vehicle that eventually became the modern automobile.

The invention of the automobile with a combustion engine was in fact started by a number of inventors: - In Belgium, mr. Etienne Lenoir produced his fist automobile in 1862. - In Germany, mr. Nikolaus Otto invented his version of the automobile, which had a 4 tact engine. - In Germany, mr. Carl Benz produced the first high speed car.

There are many designs dating back to the days of Leonardo Di Vinci and so there is not one person who is attributed to the invention of the automobile. The first self propelled road vehicle is credited to Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1769. Karl Friedrich Benz created the first gas powered vehicle in 1885-1886

Karl Benz invented the first gasoline automobile. It had three wheels and was a four cycle motor. The vehicle was first running in 1875 in Germany. However the automobile was first patented in 1886.
