In the early 1880's Dr. c. d. Fleet invented the first chap-stick. It was a lip balm made of wax without the wick.

A Virginian, Dr. Charles Fleet, developed the first chapstick in the late 1800's. He ran a small pharmacy and developed chapstick, along with other medicines, balms, beauty and healthcare products, to market in his store. Fleet Laboratories was responsible for many firsts within the beauty and healthcare industry.

Similar wax had been used as lip balm, but Dr. c. d. Fleet made it more convenient by sticking wax in a tube in the early 1880s. ChapStick was born!
