In the book Swiss Family Robinson by Robert Louis Stevenson, the family of the Robinson escapes there sinking ship and rows to shore. They then set up a settlement on island where they meet a local girl and end up settling. They also fight off pirates who attack the island that they are staying on.

In Yan Patel's book, Life of Pi, the main character Piscine is shipwrecked on his way to America. He survives with a tiger in a small life raft.

In Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) had to row to the shore of an island after his ship wrecked on a sharp cliff sticking out of the water.

I heard of a person once rowing to an island because the cruise boat they were on wrecked. It may have been a false tale but it sure sounded real to me. They spoke of how the life boat was difficult to steer and so it took a while to get everyone to get use to it.
