There is a free anti-virus software called AVG free. If you do a search on for that name, you will come up with the website and be able to download the software to run a scan for viruses on your PC. It is safe to use, and very easy to download and install.

Google Virus Total and Microsoft Security Essentials. Virus Total, you can upload a suspicious file to have it checked out by every antivirus out. Microsoft SE is free.
