yes when storm comes the TVs should be unplugged because thew satorm current is vbery powerful that it cannot be measured by any meter. So when it enters the tv by electrical wire (or) cable wire the TVs picture tube will be burned. So the TV should be unplugged
If preventing lightning damage is your goal, yes this would work. Keep in mind that excessive plugging/unplugging can weaken an outlet. A surge suppressor would be a more ideal solution.
Unplugging the TV from the wall is the best way to protect the TV. Another option it to by a protector. They look like power strips. You will want to read, how much property value they will cover. Make sure it covers the value of the TV.
