When should I get a root canal versus getting a bridge?

Root canal is advised if the periapical pathology is small and can be treated and the surrounding supporting tissues are healthy,If there is any indication that root canal will be a failure then extraction should be done a bridge can be advised.

Definitely yes. A root canal only consists of treating one tooth where as a bridge will take off of more than one tooth. It is less risky.

A root canal is required if a tooth is severly decayed or broken where the nerve tissue is exposed. Once this happens the only treatment is root canal therapy to save the tooth or an extraction. A bridge is required when a tooth is extracted and must be replaced.

Root canal treatment will save a tooth with a root infection but if your tooth has severe decay it will be better to extract the bad tooth and replace it with a bridge or false tooth attached to the tooth on either side, so long as these teeth are healthy.

Whenever you can save your teeth, you should always opt to do that. Whenever you have teeth pulled you begin to lose bone which can cause weakness in the other surrounding teeth.

If you want to have a perfect smile, getting a bridge is not a good idea. Smiling with a tooth upward below your gums can be frustrating to get back your confidence whenever you smile because you will be conscious all the time.

These are two different things. A root canal is done on the root of the tooth which helps the root and tooth last longer. Bridge is like a crown.

Well if there are cavities or a rotten tooth growing then you might as well go for the canal over the bridge.

Root canal is saving the tooth that is already there. Bridge work would require pulling the tooth and replacing it. Once the tooth is pulled it is gone. Bridge work may also be less comfortable and may cost a lot more. I would suggest the root canal first. You can always get the bridge later if that doesn't work out.

If the tooth can be conserved by doing root canal then it should be done first. Only if it requires extraction due to severe pathological changes ,then the treatment of chioce would be extraction followed by bridge preparation.
