When is the best time for pruning apple trees?

I hear different things.

You should not start pruning apple trees until they have produced fruit and are considered mature. Then prune them once a year, in the late winter or early spring when the trees are dormant. Don't prune in the fall bacause the it will force the tree into a growing, when it should be getting ready for a restful winter.

Fruit trees are pruned when they are dormant. Prune apple trees in late winter or early spring. Prune the older trees first.

The best time to to trim in the early spring and or late fall when you do so it allows the tree to fruit the best
