When is the best age to neuter a puppy?

I hope I haven't waited too late.

The best age to neuter a puppy is right around 6 months old. It is best to wait for the puppy's testicles to have actually dropped down instead of the vet having to remove them while they are still inside the puppy. If you are unsure of the timing, take your puppy to your local vet for a consultation.

While some vets suggest neutering as young as 6 weeks, almost all agree that neutering is best done before 6 months of age. But that does not mean that your dog is "too old" to be neutered if he is older than that. Even very old dogs should be fixed.

While puppies can't be neutered before sexual maturity, it is best to neuter them before they reach their version of puberty, which happens at six months old. Puppies as young as eight weeks old have reached sexual maturity, which means that their testicles have fully descended.

According to our vet they recommend around 6 months of age to 8 months of age to be good. It also depends on the breed.

You can neuter a male puppy any time after they are eight weeks old, as long as their testicles have descended. Neutering helps prevent them from getting testicular cancer. It is good that you are a responsible pet owner and want to have your pet neutered.
