Smallpox and other diseases killed at least half of the Chinook Indian tribe in the mid 19th century. Since that time the Chinook have been pushed off their land by settlers. The US government has failed to recognize them as a tribe and so technically they no longer exist but the descendants of the Chinook can be found throughout America.
