Your employer can dock your pay (garnish your wages) by court order, for reasons such as child support, alimony, taxes, etc. Alternatively, your pay can be docked if you miss a significant period of time at work without justification, but your employer has to give forewarning that this may happen.

This largely depends upon your employment contract but most companies are allowed to dock pay for missing work, losing or breaking equipment, or similar reasons.

There are many reasons, but typically an employer can garnish wages if court ordered (child support, lawsuit etc.) or if you owe the company money (property damage, pay advance etc.).

Your employer can dock your pay with a court order--for child support, failure to pay back taxes, etc. You can bet that it's legal if the government is involved, however you also have a right to know why and how much of your pay is being docked, especially if you suspect it's in error.

You must be paid for hours worked. Period. Your boss can refuse to pay for for time off, time missed by a late arrival/early departure, or a no-show. Your pay cannot be withheld as a form of punishment if you indeed worked the hours. Call the Labor Board and file a complaint.

They can dock your pay for wage garnishments via court order such as for child support and unpaid taxes. They can dock your pay if you listed time worked and were not actually there.

Hourly workers can lose pay when they arrive late, leave early, or for anything agreed on as a condition of employment. Your employer must deduct court-ordered garnishments from your pay.

For an employer to legally dock your pay, it would have to depend on the state's laws, the comany, and why the company feels they have to dock your pay.
