A pulse rate going up is something that can be triggered by an emotional response, such being nervous or surprised, although it is linked to your Blood Pressure. Blood Preassure especially in an athlete should be normal or below normal because they can take in more oxygen.

Your pulse rate measures how fast or slow your heart is beating. Your blood pressure measures the force with which the blood is being pushed through your body. The major cause for concern is the elevated blood pressure reading because this can cause damage to the small veins and organs. Once the damage starts it sets off other dangerous issues.

the lower my blood pressure, the higher my pulse rate gets. this is because the heart is attempting to compensate for the low amount of oxygen reaching the cells all over the body.

As your pulse rate increases, the blood begins to flow more rapidly through your body, which generally results in an increase in blood pressure. If your blood pressure does not increase, it can mean that your heart is not pumping at full efficiency and power.

If you lose blood pressure for whatever reason your body will respond by increasing the pulse rate to ensure plenty of oxygen to the organs. As your blood pressure drops less and less oxygen is being delivered to the vital organs. When the pulse is increased by the body more pressure is created in the circulatory system.
