What could cause a spike in blood pressure?

While at the doctors office I have a spike in my blood pressure, I am concerned it could be an underlying condition.

Stress is a normal cause of a spike in blood pressure and it is not chronic it should not be a problem

There can be many reasons for a spike in blood pressure, some of which are: diet, food sensitivity, emotional upset, hypertension, stress, anger, etc. Since you mention that you were at the doctor's office when this occured, it may be caused due to "white coat hypertension" - doctor visit stress.

Some people just get nervous at the doctor's, try having them take your blood pressure at the end of the appointment.
