Prehung doors come not only the door panel, but the entire frame around the panel (jambs, head, and sill). You literally stick the prehung door in to the opening, and pin in place. Slab doors will be mounted directly in to the jamb. You will have to notch for the hinges for a slab door.

Prehung doors are mainly for new construction or complete remodels. They include the slab, hinge, strike, and head jamb, and hinges. The slab will be bored for the doorknob and routed for hinges. A slab is used for an existing jamb, most will charge to match the slab to the jamb.

A prehung door is a door that comes with the fixings and all the trimings with it. A slab door is a door that you have to cut and measure it for the correct size and get all of the fixings separate. Either door once hung will look great in your home.

A pre-hung door is already installed into a frame. A slab door is the door by itself, you have to install the hinges and frame yourself.
