You can run an ad in your local 'help wanted' section of your newspaper. Ask that the applicants provide references or whatever else you feel is important. It shouldn't be too hard to find one.
Interview, check references, pay for background checks, ask for photo ID AND a passport or other documentation to prove citizenship. Get help if you don't feel confident with the process.
