If your cat is constipated then take it to the vet to ensure that it is not something more serious. There are some home remedies like a teaspoon of canned pumpkin mixed into wet food, 1/4 teaspoon metamucil, or oat bran that can show good results in alleviating constipation. Importantly, make sure that the cat is getting enough water.

Vaseline or mineral oil is o.k. However, there could be a more serious problem going on. She could have a blockage of some sort. In which case you should get her to a vet stat! Giving her a laxative at this moment in time could do more harm than good.

If the cat doesn't have some type of disease you can give it a laxative. The dose will depend on the size of the cat. Consult vet on proper dose. Make sure the cat has plenty of fresh water to drink. Also a tried and true remedy is to mix a little canned pumpkin in her food.
