Fleas are the most common cause of skin rashes. Use a flea comb to check for signs of fleas, and use a product like Advantage to remove them. Other causes could be a localized skin infection or allergies. If fleas are not the cause, you should consult a vet.

He may have parasites like fleas or mites, or he could have allergies. You need to take him to a vet and get him checked out as soon as you can. If he has fleas it's easy to treat with a flea bath and your vet can give you preventative medication. Mites or allergies will be trickier to treat.

A minor irritant - such as fleas - can cause an itch which your cat scratches and licks. The very act of licking can make the rash appear and get worse, the longer he does it. Aloe vera might help to ease his skin, and you should check for fleas. It could also be a reaction to food.

If your cat has fleas, the rash could be an allergic reaction to fleas. It could also be that your cat is developing a "hot spot" or possibly an abcess. You should consult with your veterinarian.
