An MRI of the lumbar back will show discs, bones, nerves and nerve roots, and soft tissues. The MRI will be able to detect any bone fractures, tissue tears, hernias, present tumors, or any abnormalities in the area. The MRI will also show the spine, spinal canal, and any abnormalities with the spine.

A MRI of the lumbar spine is usually ordered due to pain issues. It will show problems with the discs, the bone and any inpingement of the spinal column. It gives clear and accurate pictures of the area. One important thing about MRI's that needs to be considered is anyone with any metal implants cannot have this procedure performed.
