What were the hallmarks of European feudalism?

I am writing a paper on the common factors throughout Europe at that time.

European feudalism was a hierarchical system in which, ideally, all land belonged to a king. The king passed pieces of land on to the nobility, who passed pieces to the lesser nobility, etc. Serfs, at the bottom of the hierarchy, worked pieces of land in order to live on it.

The invasions from the Vikings, Magyars, and Moors were devastating to Europe and small feudal units were better at protecting than large empires or states. Peasants were under the protection of a lord, and in return gave them a percentage of crops they grew too
