Most commonly the hallmarks are numeric. There is generally a serial number along with marking indicating the purity of the metal. Countries commonly seen are Switzerland, France, Great Britian along with scatterings of Russia, Sweden and Spain. These are indications of newer hallmarks, usually the last 30 years or so. Older ones include animal heads, stars, etc.
