Freud believed that most neuroses, psychological disturbances, and personality traits in general have causes that can be traced back to sexual development, and problems in said development. He also believed that our primal (reproductive) needs are responsible for shaping our mental structure - the id, ego, and superego.

The id, the ego and the super ego are perhaps Freud's most popular theories. Also Freudian slips which is accidentally saying what you were thinking.
