In the field of art emotions and feelings gained headway and were more important than rational, logical ideas. THis included poetry, novels(the Brontes), drama and the visual arts.

As the name implies, Romantic artists tried to create art that inspired strong emotions in their audience. this was largely a reaction to the Realist artists who tried to duplicate what was around them in a strictly accurate fashion.
