Women's groups argued over whether they should advocate both prohibition and women's right to vote. Some groups' insistence on prohibition prevented men from voting for women's suffrage.

A woman could not have money in her name, but only if her father or husband was on the account. If she was widowed, the money went to her children, who could leave her penniless. Women had little right to raise their children alone.
