Hill Street Blues had three commanders. The first was Commander Dave Swanson, played by George Dickerson. Then, there was Commander 'Buck' Remington, played by George Murdock. Finally, there was Commander William Lakeland, played by J. Patrick McNamara.

On ther 80's television show hill street blues, the commander's name was Captain Frank Furillo. The part was played by Daniel J. Travanti. The show won three Golden Globe awards.
