What was the "American Idol" scandal?

Take your pick. Through the history of the show there have been media created "non-scandals". Simon is leaving because he has fulfilled what he set out to do, and is probably bored. He has always been a development marketer. American Idol probably has less internal conflict than any show in history, despite his "ugly" persona, Simon is a consummate professional.

There have been a number of scandals surrounding American Idol, but nothing you would cal THE American Idol scandal. Simon left because he has other TV series' he wants to work on and he needs more time to work on them.
