What undergraduate degree is best to prepare for law school?

The exact degree matters very little. The important thing is that you learn a lot about writing and public speaking, which are what lawyers do every day. You will learn the law itself in law school; no undergraduate major prepares you for that. Several choices--such as English, History, or Communications--will give you the public speaking and writing skills.

Personally I'm double majoring in Classics and English. The Classics was recommended by an advisor for the requirement of being able to read Latin which is a big plus in law school. As long as your major focuses on writing, speaking, and reading comprehension you're doing well.

I've read a lot on this very subject trying to figure it out myself, and a majority of answers would suggest Political Science or Criminal Justice just for the similarities. Most law schools, though, look for variety and diversity in each class admitted. So whatever you choose, excell in it.

Pre-laws believe erroneously that a political science or liberal arts education will give them an edge in law school admissions. Bottom line is that law schools are looking for smart people with a demonstrated record of intellectual success.

I was a philosophy major at university, and although I never pursued law, about half of the other philosophy graduates did. Philosophy degrees provide a great foundation in critical thinking which ought to be very helpful for a law degree candidate.

Generally liberal arts degrees are considered the best preparation, as most of them require intense readings that touch upon ideas in the humanities which ultimately effect law and legal theory. History, Philosophy, Political Science, English...

a double major or major in sociology with a minor in psychology. you'll learn about society and the world around you and what makes people tick, so that'll help if youre going into criminal law.

The best undergraduate degree to get before attending law school is either a degree in history or a degree in political science. Each have to do with the history of law but political science is probably the best way to go.

Law school advisers told me that philosophy was a good choice because you learn how to analyze different scenarios from different perspectives. Also it is good preparation for the logic questions on the LSAT.
