What TV pilots were rated the best, and the most widely viewed?

I'm curious as to whether these pilots are from new series' or old, and just how many people tuned in.

TV Pilot vs. Spin-off. Shows such as 'Lost', '24', '30Rock', 'Desperate Housewives',and 'The Sopranos' became hits without arising from existing television shows. Others in this category are "The Shield', 'Football Wives', 'Saturday Night Live', 'ER', and 'Alias'. 'Lost' and 'Desperate Housewives. ' 'Lost' remains the most popular, as it drew over 12 million viewers for its Season 3 finale.
