Monkey Puzzle and Fan Palms can survive outdoors in Michigan. Even Ginger can survive outside. These are your best bets to plant and have.

The Jasmine Sambac can survive the winter. It must be properly mulched to survive freezing weather. You must keep the soil moist, but not flooded. Some palm trees are hardy and can survive the winter. Cold weather does slow the growth of the trees. When small, they can be covered with a box for a few days in cold weather.

Basically all tropical plants can survive in Michigan but only in the summer time. They won't survive in the colder weathers because they will freeze and will not be able to oxygenate.
