What to do if the brake lights in my Ford pickup won't go out?

Go under the dash were your brake peddle is located and if you look up you will see a switch with two wires on it the colors should be green with a red line unplug this and see if your lights go off if they do just replace the switch.

With all vehicles, on the actual brake pedal is a brake light switch. First check the fuse, then the switch. Also check any loose connections.

Check the switch on the brake pedal, that is engaged when you push down the pedal. If this switch is short citcuiting, your brake lights will be on permanently.

You have a wiring problem or a bad brake light switch, might be under or attached to the brake pedal. Look for a frayed wire comming fomr the light.

look under the dahboard by the brake pedal there is a switch by the brake pedal thats probably bad, disconnect it and see if the brake lights go out, if they do then replace the switch

The best thing to do is to have someone pull up on the brake pedal and watch to see if the light goes out. If it does go out all you need is a spring and it will fix it.

They common cause for the brake lights to stay on is that the brake switch not working or out of adjustment. First locate your brake like switch. It should be adjustable, so screw it in until the lights go off. If they don't they switch may need replaced. If they do go off make sure they come back on also.

check the brake pedal switch for replacement, check for dead short in the wiring, make sure bulbs are in good order

More than likely the brake light switch needs adjusted. The pedal has dropped over time and the switch thinks the brakes are being applied all the time. The switch is usually mounted right above the brake pedal arm. Turn the assembly counter clockwise to reduce pressure on the switch until the light goes off.

There could be a short in the wiring. There could be a bad fuse. There could be a bad connection.
