Wool dyeing is a process that takes practice so don't expect it all to come out perfect the first time. Make sure water is warm, not hot.

Make sure you soak the wool in warm water, not too hot because if you aggitate it, it will felt. Then test the dye with some small pieces of wool to make sure you have the proper concentration. If necessary mix this dye with vinegar so that the color will set, this is especially important if using a non-acid dye.

One of the most fun ways to dye wool is to use Kool-Aid. There are many colors to choose from and you can adjust the intensity by adding or lessening the water. Make sure that you wear rubber gloves and an apron as Kool-Aid stains.

You need to use boiling water, large pots and good wooden mixing sticks so the wool can be moved easily in the dye bath. You need a good drying rack.

You'll need to use dyes labeled for either silk or wool. Most silk/wool dyes require heat and or steam setting or a chemical to set them.

Make sure you die wool with cold water and pick colors that are easily transferable. You can probably use food coloring as well as it doesn't come off or buy dye from Michaels.
