It is important to explain what is safe to do and what is not safe to do in your area. You want your student to feel free to explore, but they may not understand our particular risks. Make sure your student has access to adequate privacy. Adding a sitting area or desk to their room is helpful.

I would suggest being a little relaxed, patient and understanding of the student's situation but teaching them about your specific area/culture at the same time. Make sure that the student is included in activities and functions to make them feel more comfortable.
