A good size doghouse for a lab would be about 3 1/2 feet wide, 3 feet deep and 3 or 3 1/2 feet tall. If you live a a cold climate it is important not to make it too big.

The size of the doghouse should be appropriate for your dog to stand up naturally and then lay down and stretch out comfortably. Take measurements and build from there.

You do not want it too big. The doghouse should have room enough for the dog to turn around inside and lay down and that will keep him warmer.

In my experience it should be like 10 inches higher than your dog. Make sure that it is wide enough so he can turn around.
