What should you look for when observing children?

That would depend on why you are observing them. At a park playing, you'd watch for bumps and falls and people that seem out of place. At home in bed with a cold, you'd watch for rashes, vomiting or other odd reactions. At school, you'd watch their interactions with other children.

That all depends on what you are observing them for, if you are looking for behavioral issues then you should try and observe a small group of children so you can focus on everything that occurs. It is hard to label a behavior bad if you do not know what happened before the behavior.
