What should I know about Subaru cylinder head gaskets?

From 1999 to 2002, 2. 5 L Subaru has determined that the head gaskets could cause internal coolant leakage. Subaru recommends a special conditioner added to the cooling systemto prevent leaks or correct any problems that might occur. 1999 years and earlisr are not affected. Subaru sells the conditioner for the system. Not prices provided at this time.

Buy the best quality gasket available. Head gasket replacement is labor intensive and expensive so make sure to use a good gasket and have the head and block machined.

The gaskets are to hard to install except that the boxer engine is a little harder to get the head off of. The is on per side and require removing a lot of the accessories to get at the heads.
