Clear plastic bottles should be stored away from any strong smells or chemicals, since some of these can penetrate the plastic slowly over time. A cool and dark place is best. Hard or coloured plastic may contain some harmful pollutants which can enter the water.

You should store only in original or sterilized containers in cool, dark place. Exposure to sunlight can cause possibly harmful bacteria to grow and alter taste. If storing for emergency use, plan on two gallons, per person, per day for consumption and other uses.
