Mugo pines grow best in sunny areas, letting soil dry out before watering it. Prune when repotting and pinch candles(shoots) in spring twice-most vigorous first and others a week later.
Begin trimming after tree has rooted and is at the desired size. You should trim it in the late spring using paper scissors, or good shears to cut the candles.
