Basic obedience training can be started gradually, as well as socialization with people and other dogs. Exercise and play should be frequent. Take care to keep the puppy's area clean and feed a high quality dog food for puppies. Your puppy will also need a variety of chew toys so that furniture and possessions are not chewed.

Puppies need constant attention or they will whine. You should give your puppy a good puppy food (the first ingredient should be meat. And get his vaccinations.

GSD puppies love to chew, and should be given plenty of toys to chew on. This will also help their ears stand up. Also, don't play with their ears, or pet them on the head too much, as it can cause the ears not to stand up at all.

At 10 weeks old, your pup will need to eat 3-4 times a day. You can also start housebreaking him, but don't expect perfection - he's not mature enough yet. Gently introduce him to new things and people but not in public places until your vet OK's it.

Make sure your puppy has seen a vet and is started on its shots. Plan not to leave the puppy alone for more than 4 or 5 hours at a stretch until it's fully house trained. Crates are your friend and help the puppy feel safe while you're away.

Have chew toys handy to trade so he doesn't chew on you, your shoes, and the furniture. Take him out often so you don't have to deal with accidents in the house. Feed him 3 times a day. Play often and take walks to wear him out. He should sleep about 14 hours a day. Be patient!

Be vigilant on housetraining. It is best to crate train. Feed about 3 times daily. Brush and get them used to grooming at an early age.

Keep the puppy isolated from unknown dogs, as the puppy will be susceptible to disease. Make sure to keep the puppy away from dog parks, and be sure to complete the vaccine schedule as per your veterinarian.

German shepherds are strong dogs and require very little other than food and vaccinations. They will eat just about anything but avoid foods that could be poisoness such as grapes, raisins, chocolate and onions.
