If someone has filed a legal action in civil court, the parties are notified to attend a hearing. In the hearing, the judge will determine if there are sufficient grounds to proceed with the case and take it to a trial or a panel. All parties involved are allowed to speak.

A Civil Action Hearing Notice will state what action is being brought, who brought it, and will instruct you on your rights and responsibilities in regard to the action.

You only have so many days to respond. In the event that you don't, proceedings can continue without you and the judge will most likely order default judgement against you.

The main thing you should know is not to ignore the hearing. If you do not show up, you will automatically be found at fault.

You need to appear on time and dress professionally. Answer all of the judge's and lawyers questions truthfully and concisely and don't talk back to them.
