To quieten a screeching cockatail, the owner should first find out what or why the animal is screeching. This could be because it needs more attention from the owner, or it may have caught an interest from another cocktail (if available), or it has probably fallen sick, and would require medical attention. Once determined, then confront the problem presented ahead.

The best approach to keep a cockateil quiet is to keep them mentally stimulated, well exercised, and give them attention when they are behaving.

Some cockatiels screech because they are bored. Try placing some interesting bird toys in it's cage. Rotating different toys every few days may help.

Your bird may be screeching for attention and if you respond in any way you're reinforcing the behavior. Teach the bird that screeching has negative results by leaving the room and ignoring it.

One thing that helps is consistency. Covering the cage with a light towel or blanket at bedtime can help the evening screeches.

Your cockatiel is a social bird and craves attention. It my have developed some separation anxiety especially if it is the only bird. When you're in the room reassure the bird with affection. If you must go out of sight, talk with, whistle to, or sing to your bird.

Cockateil's are actually fairly gregarious creatures. They like to be with other birds, or around a human, all the time. Try getting him a friend, or at least a mirror, and be sure that he gets plenty of DARK to sleep and sunlight in the day.
