piercing

Question by  ChaoticParadise (2)

Should I take my tongue piercing out if I get strep throat?

The tip and bottom of my tongue is really sensitive and my gums have even began to swell because of it. I got an antibiotic [amoxicillin] and 800mg ibuprofen to reduce swelling, but it's been over 24 hours and it's not slowing down at all.

The swelling and sensitivity that you are feeling is a normal bodily reaction to the new piercing. Keep the piercing in and continue the course of antibiotics to completion. If the swelling does not go down in 3 to 4 days contact a doctor.

If your tongue is uncomfortable and is swelling, it's probably a good idea to take your piercing out just like you wouldn't leave a wedding ring on if your fingers were swelling.

Ok if ANY piercing is infected you NEVER take it out. If the piercing is removed and heals up it can and will go into your bloodstream and make you sick and possibly kill you. I'm not exaggerating it's happened several time just look it up.  add a comment

As long as your tongue isn't so infected that it can't be rinsed properly or cannot drain properly it's probably best to leave the piercing in. Rinse with saline solution.

I was just diagnosed with strep throat, and just got my tongue piercing 6 days agoo...they didn't say i should remove it so i dont think you should. now, if the swelling doesnt go down it's probably infected or something...so you should probably take it out.

It is wise to remove your tongue piercing as soon as possible as it could be a source of infection. You should also then complete the course of the antibiotic you currently take before actually see the effect.

It is generally considered safe to leave a tongue piercing in even if you have strep throat. However, if the swelling persists after 72 hours, I would seek professional help.

You should take your tongue ring out. Piercings are susceptible to infectous bacteria. With your body fighting off strep throat, it makes it that much harder to fight another infection. Also try to get to the doctor to get an antibiotic.

The best thing for strep throat is to gargle with about s quarter tablespoon of cayenne pepper in a small glass of water. Do it at least 4 times per day. Get the 90,000 heat units at the health food store.

It would be a good idea to take the piercing out if you are feeling ill. Strep throat is very serious and if your doctor hasn't already told you, try rinsing with Listerine or any other mouthwash which will kill the bacteria. I hope you feel better very soon.
