Revel in the beauty of what you have found? True treasure comes in all shapes and sizes and should be cherished no matter what the vessel. Sometimes the real treasure is right under our noses and we do not even notice it until it is way to late to matter.

In most cases, report it to the local authorities (police, Coast Guard if in water, park ranger if in a National park) as they will know the sprcific laws covering the situation. It will belong either to the property owner you found it on, the original owner, or if unclaimed, will be returned to you.

This often depends on what is it. If it is coins or other money enjoy your new wealth. However if ou have found jewelry, watches, or anything that might have setimental value to it i would suggest taking it to a police station after a period its your but you have done all you can then.
