Occasional blood in the stool can be normal, indicative of minor lower intestinal irritation sometimes from straining while eliminating. Excessive bleeding indicates more severe irritation, which could be parasites, bacterial infection , cancers and intestinal damage that can cause diarrhea, mucus and blood. would be ideal to bring in a stool sample to your veterinarian to have checked for parasites.

It is best to take your cat to a vet. Bloody stools can mean intestinal parasites (which may be contagious), internal bleeding, or illness. It can also be very painful.

This is an indication of something serious; you need to take them to the vet immediately, they may have ulcers.

If it has only happened once, don't be too worried about it. If the stools are hard or dry this could be the reason. Change diet. If the blood continues, go to the vet. It could be intestinal parasites or a bacterial infection.
