FPNs are intended to keep matters out of court that don't need to be heard in court, specifically "low level anti-social behavior" and minor traffic violations. It is not a criminal conviction. Pay the ticket. Failure to do so opens up a host of penalties that include steeper fines and imprisonment.

Well you should try to dispute it if you can. If you had nothing to do with it then you should hire a lawyer. If you are at fault and you know you are, pay your dues.

A fixed penalty notice is a lot like the British version of a parking or traffic ticket -- it is issued for small violations like not picking up your dog's poop or petty shoplifting. Like a traffic ticket here in the U.S., you can choose to pay the fine or go to court to fight the charge.

Fixed penalty notices are ways for law enforcement to handle a minor incident on the spot rather than going to court. If you have received one, the best thing to do is comply with the terms. You won't be jailed, and any fines you received due immediately.

Fortunately the fixed penalty pricing has to come with an offer to close out the account and keep the rate you currently have.
