When experiencing pain, it's based to test for plausible causes. Try changing the shoes that you are wearing. If you have caused the pain by injuring your toe, try putting ice on the spot, elevating the foot, and taking pain medication. If the problem persists for more than a few more days, it is time to see a doctor.

I would ice it and take some ibuprofen. This will cause any swelling to go down that might be causing the pain.

If you had any trauma to the toe, I would have it examined by a health care professional. In the meantime, you can take an anti-inflammatory or NSAID. If swelling is present you could also utilize ice. Apply ice to the area for 10-15 min periods each hour for the next few days. Whenever in doubt get it checked.

Soak the feet in a tub of warm water with antibacterial soap and hydrogen peroxide for about thirty minutes for about seven days. Be sure to dry feet well and apply a triple antibiotic ointment. If that isn't successful or the pain worsens or moves seek medical attention

Check for slivers, then wash, put antibacterial ointment on it, a bandage, and ice it if it's still hurting. It can also be imobolized by taping to adjoining toe.
